Goodbye First Smile

Five years ago, we set out to create a baby journal app, called First Smile, that makes it easier for parents to turn all precious moments into digital memories and share it privately with family.

Along the way, we created First Smile app for iOS and Android that proved these things to be true. We’re proud of the product we built, but even more so, we’re grateful for the parents that made it grows.

At every turn, your feedback shaped First Smile’s development, and your passion signalled a new chapter for First Smile. We truly appreciate your support for helping to bring this reality into view.

Unfortunately, we are truly sorry to tell that First Smile’s story ends here, and we failed to create a sustainable platform for parents to treasure the memories. We apologize deeply for this. We have been considering every option before making the difficult decision to end the product that brought us together.

As of today, it is no longer possible to create a new account, and the First Smile app will no longer be available on App Store and Google Play. Until end of this year, 31st December 2019, our first priority is to help you to export and back-up all your photos and videos that are uploaded to First Smile app.

ACTION NEEDED

To request for data backup, please see below for the simple steps:

1) Go to the Profile page of your baby account on First Smile app.
2) Then tap the 3-dot icon at top-right and choose “Backup Data” to request backup of all your uploaded photos.
3) Afterwards, you will be receiving an email to download those photos into your PC.

How long will my photos and videos data be available?

Your photos and videos data will be available until December 31, 2019. Until then, you can export and backup all your data.

What can I export?

Export data includes photos, videos and comments on your uploaded memories.

What happens to my photos and videos data? Will my privacy be protected?

All of your photos, videos and account information will be permanently deleted after December 31, 2019. User information will not be archived, shared or saved in any way.

I continue using the First Smile app?

You can, but we do not recommend it. The app will not be updated or supported after December 31, 2019.

Have you considered offering subscriptions, charging for the app, charging for premium features, etc.?

Yes, we carefully considered these and other possibilities. We also considered the subscription model but did not find it to be a viable option for us, as there are some other apps, like Google Photos offering for free. Finally, even if all users paid for the app, it would not provide the necessary resources to sustain and develop it.

Can I still upload photos and videos to First Smile app?

Yes. You can upload your photos to First Smile app until December 31, 2019.

Is there an app that can import my data directly?

Unfortunately, not at the moment. We’ve provided ways to download all of your data in a computer-readable format, so that you may upload to other photos app directly like Google Photos.
